Who Is TwiCha BLACK For?
TwiCha BLACK is for people who need their morning tea to mean it. It is the boldest, most full-bodied blend in the TwiCha collection – the choice when you want warmth, depth, and genuine character in your cup. It is the right choice if:
| You are… |
Why BLACK works for you |
| A black tea or masala chai drinker who wants more botanical complexity |
Same warming spice bouquet as masala chai – ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, clove – but with 8 additional botanicals and no artificial flavouring |
| Someone who finds green tea too light for morning use |
BLACK’s higher caffeine (40-60 mg) and full-bodied malty character delivers a genuine morning wake-up that green tea cannot match |
| A coffee drinker looking for a tea that actually feels substantial |
Full-bodied black tea + warming spices produces an intensity of flavour that satisfies coffee drinkers without the anxiety of high-dose caffeine |
| A tea lover who drinks it with milk |
BLACK’s robust black tea base stands up to milk beautifully – unlike most herbal blends, which become flat with dairy. Add milk and you have a spiced masala chai of genuine complexity |
| Someone who wants maximum flavour impact at an accessible price |
Rs.349 for 100g – the same price as TwiCha GREEN but with a bolder, more intense flavour character |
| TwiCha BLACK is the ‘no compromise’ TwiCha blend. Where GREEN is clean and citrusy, BLACK is deep and malty. Where RELAX is gentle and floral, BLACK is bold and spiced. If you have ever wanted masala chai made with real botanicals at their proper ratios – not tea dust and artificial flavouring – TwiCha BLACK is the answer. |
TwiCha BLACK vs TwiCha GREEN: The Same Botanicals, Two Different Characters
TwiCha BLACK and TwiCha GREEN share the same eleven botanical ingredients at the same ratios. The only difference is the tea base – and that difference changes everything about the experience.
| Factor |
TwiCha BLACK |
TwiCha GREEN |
| Tea base |
Black tea (Camellia sinensis, fully oxidised) |
Green tea (Camellia sinensis, unoxidised) |
| Caffeine per cup |
40-60 mg – strong morning energy |
20-30 mg – light, calm alertness |
| L-theanine |
Lower – black tea has less L-theanine than green tea |
Higher – green tea’s primary calming amino acid |
| Flavour character |
Malty, robust, deep, full-bodied – spices amplified by black tea’s boldness |
Clean, citrusy, lighter – spices lifted by green tea’s freshness |
| Best with milk? |
Yes – black tea base stands up to milk perfectly |
Not ideal – milk flattens green tea’s delicate character |
| Best time |
Morning + afternoon – whenever a bold cup is needed |
Morning to afternoon – lighter, more versatile timing |
| Steeping temperature |
90-95°C – black tea requires hotter water |
80-85°C – green tea requires cooler water to avoid bitterness |
| Who it’s for |
Bold tea drinkers, chai lovers, coffee switchers |
Green tea lovers, lighter palates, those avoiding high caffeine |
| The 11 botanicals are identical in both blends – but they express themselves completely differently depending on the tea base. Ginger’s heat is amplified by black tea’s bold body; the same ginger feels lighter and more citrusy in green tea. Cardamom’s florality is richer and more intense against black tea’s malt. This is why both blends exist – same botanical wisdom, two entirely different cups. |
Why Black Tea Changes Everything
Black tea undergoes full oxidation during processing – the process that turns green tea leaves dark brown and dramatically changes their chemical composition. This produces three key differences that define TwiCha BLACK’s character:
1. Stronger, Malty Flavour
Oxidation converts the light catechins of green tea into theaflavins and thearubigins – compounds that produce black tea’s characteristic malty, robust, deep flavour. These compounds also give black tea its darker colour and its ability to pair with milk without losing character. The warming spices in BLACK – ginger, clove, cinnamon, black pepper – are amplified rather than softened by this bolder base.
2. Higher Caffeine
Black tea contains approximately 40-60 mg of caffeine per cup – about twice the caffeine of TwiCha GREEN. This makes BLACK the most energising blend in the entire TwiCha range – suitable for those who need genuine morning wakefulness, not just gentle alertness. The ginger in BLACK additionally supports circulation and mental clarity, amplifying the caffeine’s effect.
3. Milk Compatibility
Green tea’s delicate catechins are overwhelmed by dairy proteins. Black tea’s theaflavins bind to dairy differently – creating the classic, rich masala chai experience when milk is added. TwiCha BLACK can be brewed strong and served with milk for a genuinely satisfying masala chai alternative – with real botanicals at proper ratios, not artificial chai flavouring.
| TwiCha BLACK gives you three teas in one pouch: a bold spiced black tea (straight), a complex masala chai-style brew (with milk), and a refreshing spiced cold tea (over ice). No other blend in the TwiCha range offers this versatility in serving format. |
The 12 Ingredients: What’s in BLACK and Why
The botanical blend in TwiCha BLACK is identical to TwiCha GREEN – but each ingredient expresses differently against black tea’s bold, malty base:
| Black Tea Camellia sinensis (fully oxidised) · 50%
The bold, malty foundation. Provides 40-60 mg caffeine per cup, theaflavins and thearubigins for deep colour and robust flavour, and meaningful antioxidant activity – black tea polyphenols have documented cardiovascular and antioxidant benefits. The higher caffeine and bolder character make BLACK the most energising TwiCha blend. |
| Ginger Zingiber officinale · 7%
The dominant warming note – amplified by black tea’s bold body. Gingerols and shogaols provide anti-inflammatory and digestive support (same mechanism as NSAIDs, through natural compounds). In BLACK, ginger’s heat is more pronounced than in GREEN – the malty base amplifies the spice warmth rather than softening it. Adds the characteristic kick that defines the blend’s personality. |
| Lemongrass Cymbopogon flexuosus · 7%
The citrus contrast. Lemongrass’s bright citral cuts through black tea’s malty richness with a refreshing lemon-citrus note – the counterbalance that prevents BLACK from feeling heavy. Antimicrobial and digestive antispasmodic. Without lemongrass, a spiced black tea can feel dense and one-dimensional; here it provides the lift that keeps the cup dynamic. |
| Fennel Foeniculum vulgare · 7%
The sweet balance. Anethole in fennel provides natural sweetness that reduces the perceived bitterness of black tea tannins – making BLACK more approachable without added sugar. Antispasmodic digestive support. Its mild anise-like sweetness is more noticeable in BLACK’s bolder context than in GREEN’s lighter profile. |
| Tulsi (Holy Basil) Ocimum tenuiflorum · 6%
The earthy adaptogenic note. Adds an earthy, clove-like depth that complements black tea’s natural robustness. Immunomodulatory and adaptogenic – helps the body manage the cortisol response that caffeine can trigger, making BLACK’s higher caffeine dose feel more balanced and sustainable. |
| Roselle (Hibiscus) Hibiscus sabdariffa · 6%
The bright tartness. Anthocyanins from roselle add antioxidant protection and a fruity, tangy note that brightens black tea’s malty depth. Particularly impactful when BLACK is brewed for iced tea – the tartness and colour come forward beautifully over ice, creating a visually striking and flavourful cold brew. |
| Cinnamon Cinnamomum verum · 4%
The sweet spice backbone. Cinnamaldehyde adds the warming sweetness that defines masala chai’s character – and pairs naturally with black tea. Blood sugar-moderating properties from alpha-amylase inhibition. In BLACK, cinnamon is more prominent than in GREEN – its sweetness is amplified by black tea’s natural astringency. |
| Cardamom Elettaria cardamomum · 4%
The floral warmth – the heart of masala chai. Cineole and terpinene from cardamom add a distinctive floral, aromatic quality that is most fully expressed when brewed in hot black tea. Anti-inflammatory and digestive. When BLACK is prepared with milk, cardamom’s aromatic quality blooms – this is the ingredient that makes BLACK genuinely reminiscent of premium masala chai. |
| Clove Syzygium aromaticum · 3%
The intense depth. Eugenol in cloves is a potent antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compound. At 3%, clove adds a dark, smoky intensity to BLACK’s spice profile – more prominent against black tea’s bold base than against green tea’s lighter character. A small amount that punches significantly above its ratio in flavour contribution. |
| Cumin Cuminum cyminum · 2%
The earthy anchor. Thymol and cuminaldehyde stimulate digestive enzyme production and reduce gas and bloating. Adds a warm, savoury earthiness that grounds BLACK’s spice profile. More noticeable in BLACK than in GREEN – the black tea base supports savoury and earthy notes that green tea tends to soften. |
| Turmeric Curcuma longa · 2%
The golden anti-inflammatory – activated by black pepper. Curcumin provides COX-2 anti-inflammatory benefit. Present at 2% alongside black pepper (also 2%), creating the piperine synergy that increases curcumin absorption by up to 2000%. Black tea’s bold flavour masks turmeric’s earthiness effectively – you receive the benefit without the flavour dominating. |
| Black Pepper Piper nigrum · 2%
The heat and bioavailability enhancer. Piperine adds a dry, assertive heat that is more pronounced in BLACK than in GREEN – black tea’s boldness supports rather than masks black pepper’s edge. Increases curcumin absorption from turmeric by up to 2000%. The combination of ginger heat + black pepper heat gives BLACK its characteristic warming finish. |
Flavour Profile: What BLACK Tastes Like
TwiCha BLACK has a bold, complex, deeply satisfying flavour – the most intense and layered in the TwiCha collection:
- Opening — malty depth – black tea’s characteristic malt note comes through immediately, rich and full-bodied, providing the robust foundation everything else is built on
- First sip — ginger warmth – ginger’s heat is the dominant spice note, assertive and warming, amplified by black tea’s boldness
- Mid-cup — citrus brightness – lemongrass cuts through the warmth with a refreshing citrus contrast, preventing the blend from becoming heavy or one-dimensional
- Aromatic layer — cardamom and cinnamon – the classic masala chai spice pairing blooms in the middle, floral and sweet, deeply Indian in character
- Finish — dry heat and earthy depth – black pepper’s heat lingers; clove and cumin add dark, earthy complexity; fennel provides a gentle sweet resolution
- With milk — the addition of milk rounds and deepens all the above. Cardamom becomes more prominent, ginger softens slightly, and the overall experience feels richer and more comforting – premium masala chai
| Overall impression: Bold, warm, complex, and deeply satisfying. TwiCha BLACK is the cup you reach for when you need your tea to be present with you – not politely in the background. It fills the room with its aroma, warms the body on a cold morning, and delivers botanical complexity that plain masala chai cannot match. |
Three Ways to Brew TwiCha BLACK
TwiCha BLACK is one of the most versatile blends in the TwiCha range – genuinely excellent in three completely different formats:
Method 1 — Straight Black (Clean & Bold)
- Add 1 heaped teaspoon (approximately 2-2.5g) to your cup
- Pour 200 ml of hot water at 90-95°C – black tea requires hotter water than green tea; boiling is appropriate
- Steep for 3-4 minutes – 3 minutes for a lighter cup, 4 minutes for full boldness
- Strain and drink straight – no milk, no sugar needed. The spices provide natural sweetness; fennel and roselle balance the tannins
Method 2 — With Milk (Masala Chai Style)
- Add 1 heaped teaspoon (approximately 2.5g) to a small saucepan
- Add 150 ml water and bring to a near-boil
- Simmer gently for 2-3 minutes – this releases more spice compounds than steeping alone
- Add 50-100 ml of full-fat or plant milk (oat milk works particularly well with the spices)
- Bring to a gentle boil, reduce heat, simmer 1 minute
- Strain into your cup – add honey or jaggery to taste if desired
Method 3 — Cold Brew / Iced (Spiced Cold Tea)
- Add 2 heaped teaspoons (approximately 4g) to 500 ml of cold water
- Stir, cover, and refrigerate for 8-12 hours (overnight)
- Strain and serve over ice
- Add a squeeze of lemon – roselle and lemongrass come forward beautifully; lemon amplifies the tartness and brightness
- Optional: a small amount of honey and fresh mint for a complete spiced iced tea
| Cold brew BLACK is exceptional:
Cold brewing extracts the sweetness and aromatics of the spices without extracting bitter tannins. The result is a smooth, complex, naturally sweet cold tea where cardamom, cinnamon, and lemongrass are most prominent – with virtually no bitterness. The roselle’s colour is especially vivid in cold brew. A genuinely distinctive alternative to bottled iced teas. |
| Steeping tip for straight BLACK: If you prefer less tannin bitterness, reduce steeping time to 2-2.5 minutes. The spices extract quickly – the black tea tannins need more time. A shorter steep gives you full spice character with lighter body. A longer steep (4 minutes) gives you the full malty richness. Both are correct – it depends on your preference. |

Who Should Use TwiCha BLACK — and Who Should Not
BLACK is well-suited for:
- Masala chai drinkers who want real botanicals at proper ratios – not tea dust with artificial chai flavouring
- Coffee drinkers exploring tea – BLACK’s bold body and moderate-high caffeine provides the intensity and substance that keeps coffee drinkers satisfied
- Morning black tea drinkers who want more botanical complexity from their daily cup
- Those who drink tea with milk – BLACK is the only TwiCha blend that truly excels with dairy or plant milk
- Cold brew enthusiasts – BLACK cold brew is smooth, complex, and naturally sweet with no bitterness
- People who want maximum flavour impact from their tea – BLACK is the most intense sensory experience in the TwiCha collection
BLACK is NOT ideal for:
- Caffeine-sensitive individuals — at 40-60 mg per cup, BLACK has the highest caffeine in the TwiCha range. Those sensitive to caffeine should consider TwiCha GREEN (20-30 mg), DEFENSE, or ALERT (both 20-35 mg)
- Evening or late afternoon use — the higher caffeine content makes BLACK unsuitable after 2-3 PM for most people. Choose TwiCha RELAX for evening use
- Those who prefer delicate, subtle flavours — BLACK is bold by design. TwiCha GREEN delivers the same botanical blend in a significantly lighter, cleaner format if subtlety is preferred
- Pregnant women — contains black tea caffeine + clove, black pepper, and tulsi which warrant caution during pregnancy; consult your doctor
- People with high blood pressure or cardiac conditions — the higher caffeine in black tea warrants consultation with a doctor for those with relevant conditions
Storage and Shelf Life
- Store the pouch sealed, in a cool dry place away from sunlight and strong aromas
- The resealable pouch maintains freshness – press out air before resealing after each use
- Black tea absorbs aromas strongly – keep away from coffee, spices stored separately, or strongly scented foods
- Do not refrigerate – moisture degrades the volatile spice oils and can promote mould in loose leaf blends
- Best consumed within 12 months – Batch TB 01, Mfg May 2026, Exp May 2027
